Plan your trip and split travel costs fairly among travelers, with equal or weighted splitting and a detailed per-traveler breakdown.
Start by naming your destination, then fill in as much or as little trip detail as you like: starting and ending location, whether it's a Round Trip or Multi-City trip, your Start and End Date (in dd-mm-yyyy format — Days/Nights fills in automatically once both dates are entered), the number of travelers (up to 9), and whether costs should be split Equally or by Weightage. A Trip Overview and Packing List are both optional, each up to 2,500 characters, and the Packing List has a one-click Bullet list button that adds a bullet to every existing line.
Between Trip Overview and Packing List sits an optional Itinerary field, up to 3,000 characters, for day-by-day plans or anything else worth writing down ahead of time.
Next, name each traveler if you'd like, or leave any name blank and that traveler will simply be shown by their number throughout the tool and the report. If Weighted Split was chosen, this is also where you set each traveler's percentage — it must add up to exactly 100% before you can continue.
Then comes the trip expense table, covering 14 common travel categories, plus the option to add more.
This is a multiplier, from 2 to 52, and it's optional. Use it when one expense actually repeats several times — a nightly hotel rate across several nights, for example. Enter 3,000 in Amount and 5 in the × column, and the tool calculates 15,000 as that row's true amount before splitting it. Leave × blank and the Amount is used as entered, with no multiplication.
This stands for Assignment, and it's how you mark an expense as belonging to specific travelers rather than being shared by everyone. Enter the traveler number or numbers it belongs to — for example, entering 2 means that expense is entirely traveler 2's own cost, while entering 13 means it's split evenly between travelers 1 and 3 only, regardless of the Equal or Weighted setting chosen at the start. Leave A blank and the expense is treated as shared, split according to whichever method was chosen in Step 1.
Trip: Ladakh, 4 travelers (Alex, Lola, Roxy, and Leo), Equal Split, 5 nights.
| Category | Amount | × | A | Final amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flight/Train/Bus | 9,000 | — | — | 9,000 |
| Accommodation | 3,000 | 5 | — | 15,000 |
| Food | 800 | 5 | — | 4,000 |
| Local Transportation | 500 | — | — | 500 |
| Alex's travel insurance | 1,200 | — | 1 | 1,200 |
Flight (9,000, shared), Accommodation (3,000 × 5 nights = 15,000, shared), Food (800 × 5 days = 4,000, shared), and Local Transportation (500, shared) add up to 28,500 shared, which splits four ways: 7,125 each. Alex's travel insurance (1,200, assigned only to traveler 1) belongs entirely to Alex, on top of his shared 7,125.
| Traveler | Total |
|---|---|
| Alex | 8,325 |
| Lola | 7,125 |
| Roxy | 7,125 |
| Leo | 7,125 |
| Total expense | 29,700 |
Trip: 2 travelers, Alex at 70% and Lola at 30%, reflecting that Alex booked the pricier room upgrade separately.
| Category | Amount | × | A | Final amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rental Car/Fuel | 6,000 | — | — | 6,000 |
| Food | 2,000 | — | — | 2,000 |
Both expenses are shared, so they follow the 70/30 split rather than an even one:
| Traveler | Total |
|---|---|
| Alex (70%) | 5,600 |
| Lola (30%) | 2,400 |
| Total expense | 8,000 |
This is where Weighted Split genuinely differs from Equal Split and from the Assignment column — it changes how every shared expense divides by default, while Assignment only overrides the split for one specific row at a time.
The card at the bottom shows each traveler's total, and tapping any traveler's row expands a detailed breakdown showing exactly which categories contributed to their share — useful for settling up without needing to recheck the whole table by hand.
Once your results are calculated, an optional "+ Add Contribution" section appears below the per-traveler totals. It's a way to log what each traveler has actually put in (or should put in) toward the total, so far, and see who still owes money and who's paid in more than their share — useful whether you're settling up before the trip, during it, or after it's over. Opening it adds a Contribution column next to each traveler's already-calculated Cost, locked to exactly your current number of travelers. Enter each contribution either as a direct amount, or switch that row to % and enter a percentage of that traveler's own Cost — a GO button then calculates the amount for you. A contribution can run higher than that traveler's own share (shown as an excess), but never higher than the whole trip's total expense. Tapping a traveler's row again shows the contribution and net figure alongside their expense breakdown, and the same detail is included whenever you Copy, Download or Share.
Worked example: same 4 travelers as above (Alex, Lola, Roxy, Leo), but this time each has an equal calculated Cost of 20,000 (total trip expense 80,000).
| Traveler | Cost | Contribution | Net |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alex | 20,000 | 20,000 | Settled |
| Lola | 20,000 | 5,000 | Owes 15,000 |
| Roxy | 20,000 | 0 | Owes 20,000 |
| Leo | 20,000 | 35% via %/GO → 7,000 | Owes 13,000 |
Total budgeted cost stays 80,000; collected so far is 32,000 (20,000 + 5,000 + 0 + 7,000), so still needed shows 48,000. Each traveler's own row shows their individual status — Lola, Roxy and Leo still owe the difference between their Cost and what they've contributed, while Alex is fully settled.
Copy result places a properly formatted table onto your clipboard, including your trip details and a full per-traveler breakdown, ready to paste into Word, Gmail, or Google Docs as an actual table rather than plain text. Download report saves a separate, nicely formatted HTML file — it includes your trip details, the complete expense table exactly as entered, the total, and every traveler's detailed breakdown, generated entirely in your browser with nothing passing through any server. Share hands that same report file to your device's own share sheet, so it can go straight into WhatsApp, Gmail, or any other app on a phone without downloading it first; it only appears where your browser supports it, with Download as the fallback everywhere else. Download CSV saves the same figures as a spreadsheet-ready file, and Print opens your browser's own print dialog with the same report — both are created in your browser, with nothing sent anywhere. If you've used Contribution (optional), all three include it in full — the contribution table and every traveler's net figure — alongside the rest of your trip details.
Nothing you enter is saved between visits. Refreshing the page resets the calculator completely, and no data is ever transmitted anywhere. Every number, name, and custom category you type stays local to your own browser the entire time. This tool works for any kind of trip — a weekend getaway, a multi-city itinerary, or a long group holiday — since the underlying math of splitting shared travel costs fairly is the same regardless of the destination.
