Everyday arithmetic on the Basic side, and real depth on the Scientific side: trig, logs, parentheses, equation solving, complex numbers, fractions, matrix operations, and number tools — switch between them with a tab.
Scientific, Paste and Solve, Equation, Complex Numbers, Fractions, Matrix, and Number Tools each take input differently. Here's what to enter and where, with a couple of worked examples for each.
Type expressions directly into the main keypad and display — trigonometry, square roots, logarithms, and real parentheses.
Example 1: (5+3)*(2+sin(30)) — Result: 20
Example 2: sqrt(16)+log(100) — Result: 6
Paste an equation or expression without picking a tab first. It's checked and solved automatically, and the result tells you which tool handled it.
Paste: x^2-5*x+6=0
Result: Equation Solver — solve 2, 3
Paste: (3+4i)*(2-i)
Result: Complex Numbers — arithmetic 10 + 5i
Paste: 3/4+5/6
Result: Fractions — arithmetic 19/12 (1.583333)
Paste: det([[1,2],[3,4]])
Result: Matrix — determinant -2
Paste: gcd(84,126)
Result: Number Tools — gcd 42
Switch to Equation → Solve, then enter the equation into the equation field. Solves for x directly, rather than calculating each step yourself.
Example 1: x^2-5*x+6=0 — Result: x = 2, 3
Example 2: 2*x+3=7 — Result: x = 2
Use Complex → Arithmetic, and enter the first number, second number, and operation. Handles the arithmetic without expanding it by hand.
Example 1: 3+4i × 1+2i — Result: −5 + 10i
Example 2: 3+4i × 2-i — Result: 10 + 5i
Use Fractions → Arithmetic, then enter the first fraction, second fraction, and operation. Stays in fraction form throughout, so the result is exact, not rounded.
Example 1: 3/4 + 1/6 — Result: 11/12
Example 2: 3/4 + 5/6 — Result: 19/12
Switch to Matrix → One Matrix, choose 2×2, select Determinant, and enter the matrix. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, inverse, and transpose all work the same way.
Example 1: [[1,2],[3,4]] — Result: −2
Example 2: [[2,0],[0,2]] — Result: 4
Use Number → GCD/LCM, enter the same two numbers, and pick the operation. Base-N conversion and Prime Factors work the same way, each in their own tab.
Example 1: GCD of 12 and 18 — Result: 6
Example 2: LCM of 12 and 18 — Result: 36
From a quick scientific expression to equations, complex numbers, fractions, matrices, and number operations — choose the tool, enter the problem in its own natural format, and get a clear result, entirely in your browser.
